Raindrops in the Desert

Your smile is like a thousand watts of
lightning through my heart
like a crescent moon
lit up in the dark night
like raindrops on my face
in the desert sand
like red, blue and yellow balloons
set free against the blue sky.
Like the presents beneath the Christmas tree
like the diamond in the dusty mine
like the first slurp of a frothy milkshake
like a bubble bath
like the songs of a spring bird
newly born
like a Tiffany ring set among cheap metals
like scorching ice and freezing fire
like the sound the gunshot made
when it hit my heart.
